Tata Chemicals Subsidiary Wins ₹783 Crore Land Revenue Dispute in Kenya

TATACHEM
subsidiary, Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd (TCML), achieved a significant legal victory as the Court of Appeal in Nairobi ruled in its favour, declaring the ₹783 crore (KES 11.84 billion) land revenue demand by the Kajiado County Government as arbitrary and without a transparent framework. The court clarified that TCML is not liable to pay the arrears in the absence of a clear and accountable land rate determination system. As of March 31, 2025, the ₹783 crore contingent liability was reflected in the company’s books, and management will now reassess its accounting treatment post-verdict. Financially, Tata Chemicals reported a 68% YoY rise in net profit to ₹252 crore for Q1FY26, while revenue dipped 1.8% to ₹3,719 crore. EBITDA grew 13% YoY to ₹649 crore with margins improving to 17.4%, and net debt stood at ₹4,972 crore as of June 30, 2025.
