Tata Power Strengthens Assam’s Renewable Energy Landscape with ₹30,000 Crore Investment
Tata Power has entered into a strategic MoU with the Assam government at Advantage Assam 2.0 to develop up to 5,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage solutions. This initiative, backed by an investment commitment of ₹30,000 crore over the next five years, aligns with India's push for energy security and sustainability.
The Assam government will facilitate the allocation of approximately 20,000 acres of encumbrance-free land, streamlining project execution through single-window clearances and financial incentives. Additionally, the development of Renewable Energy Parks and Group Captive sites will enable industries and tea plantations to integrate clean energy into their operations, fostering a greener industrial ecosystem.
In a parallel move, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has formalized an MoU with Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to scale up distributed solar capacity under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY). This collaboration is expected to generate 3,000 direct employment opportunities while enhancing energy efficiency across the state.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, emphasized that these agreements will accelerate Assam’s transition to a low-carbon economy, leveraging policy support, infrastructure development, and skill enhancement initiatives.
