TATASTEEL
has been served a ₹1,000 crore GST show-cause notice by the Commissioner (Audit), Central Tax, Ranchi, citing alleged irregular input tax credit claims between FY2018–FY2023 under Section 74(1) of the CGST Act. The company has already remitted ₹514.19 crore as part of its regular tax payments, bringing the effective exposure to ₹493.35 crore.
Tata Steel asserts that the demand lacks merit and intends to contest it within the regulatory timeframe before the Joint Commissioner of GST. From a financial and operational standpoint, the company has confirmed that this issue poses no material impact. While such tax notices raise headline risk, Tata Steel’s strong compliance track record and its proactive response should provide stability to investor sentiment.
