Titagarh Rail & ABB India Forge Strategic Tech Partnership for 25 kV Driverless Metro Propulsion
Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (
TITAGARH
) and ABB India Ltd (
ABB
) have entered a latest strategic agreement to co-develop and supply advanced propulsion systems for 25 kV AC driverless metro projects in India, marking a key step toward technology localisation under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Under this collaboration, ABB will support design, manufacture, supply, testing, installation supervision and commissioning of metro propulsion systems and will transfer technology for Train Control and Monitoring Systems (TCMS) tailored for driverless operations, while a phased transfer of manufacturing and co-production of critical components like converters and traction motors will be enabled to boost domestic capability.
The pact builds on their earlier alliance and complements Titagarh’s existing contract to supply 240 coaches for Mumbai Metro Lines 5 and 6, reinforcing its position as an integrated rolling-stock manufacturer and enhancing India’s self-reliance in high-value rail technologies.
