Zydus Lifesciences gains as Bernstein sees 28% upside

ZYDUSLIFE
Limited gained nearly 3% after Bernstein retained its Outperform rating with a target price of ₹1,457, implying over 28% upside from Thursday’s close of ₹1,135.10. The key trigger is Usnoflast, Zydus Lifesciences’ oral drug being developed for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Bernstein said Novartis discontinuing VHB937 for ALS on September 16 reduces a competing development program and improves the commercial opportunity for Usnoflast. Bernstein’s focus is now on the ongoing UNITE-ALS study. The key question is whether the trial shows a clinically meaningful slowing of disease progression. If the data is positive, the drug’s Phase IIb efficacy, oral dosing, US orphan designation and potential for FDA priority review could support wider adoption. Bernstein estimates a potential annual revenue run-rate of around $100 million, subject to positive clinical outcomes. My view is that the stock story is increasingly linked to clinical execution rather than just near-term earnings. The ₹1,457 target is based heavily on the value that Usnoflast could create if the UNITE-ALS results support its efficacy. That also means the downside risk can increase if the trial fails to show meaningful disease progression benefits. I would therefore track clinical data more closely than the brokerage target itself. Zydus Lifesciences rose to an intraday high of ₹1,167.30 and was trading around ₹1,157.70, up about 2%. The stock is up 27% so far this year. I am watching ₹1,167 as the immediate price level. A sustained move above this zone could keep momentum positive, while the next major trigger remains the UNITE-ALS clinical outcome. Stance: Positive on the setup, but the clinical trial remains the key risk. Disclaimer: This post is for informational purposes only and not a recommendation to buy or sell any securities.
