Cardamom Futures 101: MCX’s New Contracts Explained”

MCX
MCX has reintroduced cardamom futures contracts effective July 29, 2025, after discontinuing them in 2021 per a SEBI directive. Initial contracts cover August, September and October expiries, each trading in 100 kg lots with a tick size of ₹1/kg and maximum order size of 5,000 kg. Margins start at 10 % or SPAN, plus a 1 % extreme loss margin; position limits are 100 tonnes for clients and up to 1,000 tonnes per member or 15 % of total open interest, whichever is higher. Delivery will occur at the Vandanmedu (Idukki, Kerala) warehouse, aiming to boost price discovery, stabilize spot markets, and empower farmers and exporters with transparent benchmarks.
