Tata Power Renewable Energy Secures BESS Order from NHPC
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed its first Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with NHPC Limited. This landmark order will see TPREL develop a 30 MW/120 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) at a 220 kV substation in Areacode, Kerala.
Key Highlights
TPREL won the contract through NHPC’s BESS Tranche-I competitive bidding process for the Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) end-user.
The BESS will be commissioned within 15 months and operated under a 12-year BESPA framework governed by Ministry of Power guidelines.
This project is part of NHPC’s broader initiative to deploy 125 MW/500 MWh of standalone battery storage capacity in Kerala under a tariff-based competitive bidding model backed by Viability Gap Funding.
The system will enhance grid flexibility, address peak demand, and facilitate seamless integration of intermittent renewable energy in the state2.
With this order, TPREL’s total renewable portfolio rises to approximately 10.9 GW, comprising 5.6 GW of operational solar and wind capacity and 5.3 GW under development.#WatchOutFor#StockInNews#Budget2025#HiddenGems#EquityResearch
