Uno Minda gains 6.5% after expansion plans

Minda Limited closed September 18 at ₹1,284, gaining 6.56%. The stock traded between ₹1,206.80 and ₹1,284 during the session and closed at the day's high. Volume was around 1.28 million shares. The move comes against the backdrop of the company's recently announced ₹1,415 crore expansion programme across several business divisions. The plan includes a new aluminium casting facility at Hosur, expansion of two-wheeler alloy wheel operations at Kharkhoda, a Bengaluru moulding expansion and a new facility in Maharashtra through its Toyoda Gosei joint venture. The capital allocation is significant because it is spread across multiple product categories rather than being concentrated in one facility. According to the company's plans, the Hosur casting project carries estimated capex of ₹510 crore, while the Toyoda Gosei South India facility is expected to involve around ₹670 crore. My view: the expansion provides a potential route for Uno Minda to increase capacity as automotive component demand develops. But capex announcements do not immediately translate into earnings. The important variables will be commissioning timelines, capacity utilisation, customer additions and return on invested capital. The technical setup is also worth monitoring. The stock closed at ₹1,284, exactly at the session high, after opening at ₹1,213.20. That shows strong intraday demand. However, the stock is still below its reported 52-week high of ₹1,382, so the current move should be evaluated as a recovery rather than automatically treated as a new long-term breakout. For the next session, ₹1,284 is the immediate reference level. Holding above ₹1,250 after the sharp move would keep the short-term structure stronger. A move through ₹1,300 with sustained volume would provide additional price confirmation, while a sharp fall back below the day's opening zone would weaken the momentum.
