Bharti Airtel Leads as Sensex Surges 1,200 Points

Markets opened higher today and built strong gains through the first half. The Sensex opened up about 244 points at roughly 73,026 and the Nifty up about 56 points at roughly 22,678, against Wednesday’s closes of 72,781.89 and 22,622.70. IT stocks and banks drove the rise, and the Jio IPO news lifted the mood. By 12 PM the Sensex was up about 1,200 points (1.69%) at 74,011.21, with the Nifty nearing 23,000. -

is the standout stock. It led the Nifty gainers at 12 PM, up 3.69% to ₹1,860.80, and was still among the top three at 2 PM. -IT stocks are strong again. HCL Tech (+3.4%), Tech Mahindra (+3.3%) and TCS are leading, and Nifty IT is the top sector. Wipro reports its results later today. -Reliance is also higher, up about 2.8% at 12 PM, helped by the Jio IPO news. -Tata Communications jumped 10%. -Trent, Adani Enterprises and Nestle India were the early laggards. Trent was the biggest loser at midday, down 1.4%.
