FirstCry Falls Below $1 Billion as Competition Intensifies

FIRSTCRY
parent Brainbees Solutions saw its market value fall below the $1 billion mark, as its shares declined amid rising competition in India’s babycare market. The company’s market value stood at around ₹9,481 crore, significantly below its peak valuation of nearly $4.5 billion. FirstCry had built a large network of warehouses, stores, product catalogue and supply chain, but newer players have entered the segment with 60-minute deliveries, sharper product selection and try-before-you-buy options. The company’s FY26 report also pointed to slower competitor monitoring, delayed product and AI initiatives, and changing customer behaviour as challenges. To accelerate its response, FirstCry has launched Qwik in five cities and expanded RocketBees to 62 cities, while focusing on premium products and private brands. The podcast also highlighted fresh funding activity in India’s semiconductor sector. Agrani Labs is in talks to raise around $50 million, while Ananant Systems is seeking around $5 million from the Uttar Pradesh government and the RDI fund. At the same time, RBI's merchant re-KYC deadline has created concerns for small QR-code merchants, with payment companies warning that merchants who fail to complete verification may be unable to receive customer payments.
