Hero MotoCorp Bets ₹1,758 Crore on Ather
Investor activity picked up in key stocks as marquee names executed significant block and bulk deals on August 28. Notably, renowned investor Ashish Dhawan increased his holding in Religare Enterprises, while Hero MotoCorp strengthened its position in electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy with a ₹1,758-crore acquisition.
Dhawan purchased 38 lakh shares of Religare Enterprises through two transactions at ₹232 per share, taking the deal value to around ₹88.16 crore. The acquisition represents an additional 1.11% stake and takes his overall holding above the 5% mark. Dhawan had held a 5.24% stake in Religare as of June 2026. Religare shares closed at ₹233.05 on the NSE on August 28, down 0.49% after a volatile trading session.
Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp acquired 1.18 crore shares of Ather Energy at ₹1,480 per share, amounting to ₹1,758.24 crore. The transaction represents around 3.01% of Ather’s paid-up equity, with the Government of Singapore emerging as the seller. Following the acquisition, Hero MotoCorp’s stake in Ather is expected to rise to approximately 32.8% from 29.88%, reinforcing its position as the electric two-wheeler maker’s largest shareholder.
Ather shares had already attracted strong investor interest, gaining 8.09% on August 28 to close at a record ₹1,616.30 on the NSE. The deal highlights Hero MotoCorp’s increasing commitment to the rapidly expanding electric mobility segment and signals continued strategic interest in Ather’s long-term growth prospects.
