Fortis Healthcare: 400-Bed Hospital Agreement

has signed agreements to provide healthcare services at a 400-plus-bed hospital in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi. Fortis Healthcare has entered into definitive agreements with Seth Sunder Lal Jain Charitable Eye Hospital Society to provide healthcare services at the upcoming 400-plus-bed super speciality hospital. The hospital is expected to begin operations in 3–4 years, subject to the required approvals. Under the agreement, Fortis Hospotel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Healthcare, will receive long-term exclusive rights to provide specified inpatient healthcare services and specialised equipment. These include Cath Lab, LINAC, PET-CT and surgical robotics. The healthcare services agreement has a committed term of 29 years, with an option for further extension. For me, the key point is the duration of the agreement rather than just the 400-bed capacity. Fortis will not own the hospital's land and building, but it will provide healthcare services and clinical manpower while receiving an agreed service fee. This creates a different business model from directly owning and operating the entire hospital asset. I will watch the construction timeline, regulatory approvals and eventual ramp-up of the hospital. The financial contribution is unlikely to be immediate because operations are expected only after 3–4 years.
