Nifty rallies 220 points as VIX drops 7.9%
Nifty 50 gained 220.35 points to 22,776.10 (+0.98%) on Tuesday, while Sensex rose 0.95% to 73,067.81 and Bank Nifty gained 0.76% to 55,128.40. Consumer Durables (+2.04%), FMCG (+1.74%) and Pharma (+1.48%) led sectoral gains, while IT (-0.51%) and Realty (-0.37%) lagged. Overall NSE breadth was strong at 2,453 advances against 1,125 declines. India VIX declined 7.92% to 13.61, indicating lower near-term volatility, although the weekly expiry contributed to final-hour swings. Technical setup: Nifty closed at the day's high of 22,776.10 but remains below its 20-day average of 23,121.79 and 50-day average of 23,553.48. RSI improved to 36 from the oversold zone but remains below 50. Key levels: Support at 22,633 and 22,490; resistance at 22,848 and 22,919. The option chain showed Nifty put OI concentrated at 22,700 and call OI at 22,800, with PCR at 1.16 for the 6 October series. Market view: The strong close and lower VIX improve the short-term setup, but Nifty needs to sustain above 22,848–22,919 for stronger confirmation. The upcoming RBI decision and currency movement remain important catalysts. Learning outcome: A sharp index rise does not automatically confirm a trend reversal. Investors should combine price action, moving averages, RSI, volatility and option positioning before assessing market direction.
