HDFC Bank: Profit Grows 4.7%, Is Market Concerned?
HDFC Bank reported a 4.7% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹19,510 crore for the September 2026 quarter. Net interest income also grew 9.7%.
However, the stock came under pressure on October 19 as investors assessed the earnings quality and profitability outlook.
What should investors examine?
1. Net interest margin: Funding costs and lending yields determine how efficiently the bank generates income.
2. Asset quality: Higher provisions can reduce reported profitability even when core income grows.
3. Deposit growth: Sustainable deposit mobilisation is essential for supporting future lending.
4. Treasury income: Changes in investment-related income can affect quarterly profit comparisons.
My analysis
Profit growth is positive, but the market also evaluates whether earnings meet expectations and can be sustained in future quarters.
A declining share price does not automatically make a stock undervalued. I would review management commentary, margin trends and asset quality before forming a stronger directional view.
