A senior delegation from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, headed by Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board (CSB) and Secretary General of the International Sericultural Commission (ISC), Mr. P. Sivakumar, effectively wrapped up a comprehensive multi-sectoral engagement in Georgia from November 17 to 21, 2025. The main aim was to enhance bilateral collaboration in the sericulture, textiles, apparel, and carpet industry sectors. The delegation took an active role in the 11th BACSA International Conference-CULTUSERI 2025, where he presented the notable opening speech representing the ISC, emphasizing India's prominent standing in traditional silk expertise and its modern significance for creative and cultural sectors. He also submitted a technical document titled "The Chronicles of Wild Silk." Dr. S. Manthira Moorthy, Director (Technical) at CSB, presented on the development of productive bivoltine silkworm hybrids via Indo-Bulgarian cooperation, focusing on the specific needs of Indian sericulture environments. The Central Silk Board presented its innovative "5-in-1 Silk Stole," a high-quality item that combines Mulberry, Oak Tasar, Tropical Tasar, Muga, and Eri silks, developed under the Member Secretary's forward-thinking initiative. This distinct product showcases India's abundant silk tradition while indicating significant global market possibilities. The delegation thoroughly interacted with important Georgian stakeholders, such as universities, silk cultivation labs, research institutions, textile companies, clothing producers, carpet vendors, and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI). These strategic engagements highlighted improving bilateral textile trade, promoting industrial partnerships, and investigating collaborative research opportunities.
