APEDA Facilitates Landmark Makhana Export from Bihar to Canada, Boosting Farm Returns

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated Bihar's first-ever sea shipment of value-added, flavoured makhana (fox nuts) to Canada. Flagged off from Darbhanga on July 29, 2026, the 7-metric-tonne consignment was processed by Nutrivin Agro Private Limited in compliance with international safety standards and routed to ZKV Foods through Mundra Port. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted that this landmark export demonstrates Bihar's rising strength in food processing, branding, and export-driven manufacturing, driven by joint efforts across the agricultural value chain. As India's primary makhana producer, Bihar is capitalizing on a surging global appetite for healthy packaged snacks. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry noted that shifting to value-added makhana products has boosted farm-gate returns by over 50%, significantly elevating income potential for local farmers and processors. Moving forward, APEDA plans to continue reinforcing Bihar's position as an agri-export power by enhancing market linkages, export infrastructure, and quality standards alongside state authorities and local producer groups. $BIKAJI $GOPAL
