EEPC India & Commerce Ministry Engineering Export Strategy

The Department of Commerce and EEPC India, the country’s apex engineering exports promotion organization, convened a strategic Chintan Shivir to formulate a roadmap for scaling India's engineering exports to $250 billion (₹23.68 lakh crore) by 2030. Key deliberations focused on expanding international market access through Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and boosting global competitiveness by securing long-term raw material supplies. Delivering the keynote address, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal commended the resilience of Indian exports amid global macroeconomic headwinds, highlighting that total merchandise and services exports rose 14% year-on-year to $476.20 billion (₹45.10 lakh crore) during the April–September FY27 period. Over the same timeframe, engineering exports surpassed $70 billion (₹6.63 lakh crore), recording nearly 20% year-on-year growth. Addressing long-term structural targets, Secretary Agrawal highlighted the opportunity to expand India’s share in global merchandise exports from roughly 2% to 15–20%, urging industry-wide collaboration to navigate trade hurdles such as Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and global sustainability mandates. Joint Secretary Vimal Anand encouraged EEPC India to revisit even higher benchmarks—targeting $300 billion (₹28.41 lakh crore) by 2030—and requested a comprehensive white paper on sector-specific QCO compliance. Confirming strong growth momentum, EEPC India Chairman Pankaj Chadha stated that engineering exports are on track to surpass $140 billion (₹13.26 lakh crore) in FY27, establishing a record export performance for the sector.
