FADA September 2026 EV Retail Sales Record
According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), India’s electric vehicle (EV) market achieved an all-time monthly high in September 2026, with retail sales reaching 3,33,634 units—a 74% year-on-year surge. Overall EV market penetration across vehicle categories expanded to approximately 13%, up from 10% in September 2025. FADA President Sai Giridhar attributed this milestone growth to festive demand, favorable running-cost economics, an expanding choice of consumer models, and strong policy support through the PM E-DRIVE initiative alongside state-level incentives. Segment-wise data highlights record volume surges across mass-market categories. Electric two-wheeler sales surged 88.67% year-on-year (and 13.16% month-on-month) to 2,07,314 units, raising segment penetration to 11.6%. Electric passenger vehicles expanded 94.56% year-on-year to a record 36,108 units, pushing passenger EV penetration to 8.5%. Meanwhile, electric three-wheelers grew 40% year-on-year to 86,024 units—maintaining a market penetration of 64.9%—and electric commercial vehicles more than doubled year-on-year with 158% growth to reach 4,188 units, driving segment penetration to nearly 4%.
