Maiden Palmyra Jaggery Export Consignment
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, facilitated the maiden export shipment of 1.755 metric tonnes of organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder (Palmyra Blossom Nectar) on October 15, 2026. Sourced from Gobichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district, the consignment is bound for Varna, Bulgaria, via Chennai Port. Certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and European Union organic standards, the shipment was manufactured by Wellbeing Foods in collaboration with exporter Chetty Exports and will be distributed in Europe by Sow Life Ltd. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev flagged off the export ceremony alongside regional trade partners and progressive farmers, marking a milestone in diversifying India's organic agricultural export footprint.
By bringing 137 acres of Palmyra cultivation under certified organic standards, the initiative establishes a direct export-oriented value chain for traditional Indian sweeteners. The shift to international markets delivers significant financial premiums, generating approximately 15–22% higher price realization for local farmers and a 17% margin increase for the manufacturer compared to domestic sales channels. Derived directly from Palmyra blossom nectar as a nutrient-dense alternative to refined sugar, the product positions traditional Indian agro-products for broader acceptance across European health food segments. APEDA projects that this maiden consignment will pave the way for expanded market access for value-added traditional food items across global markets.
