MeitY, STPI & IIT-BHU Boost AI in Healthcare

The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), in collaboration with IIT (BHU) Varanasi, convened a technology conclave titled AI for Health & Assistive Technologies to examine artificial intelligence applications across healthcare, accessibility, and social inclusion. Delivering the keynote address, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized AI’s transformative potential to enhance clinical decision-making, expand healthcare accessibility, and optimize service delivery for underserved populations. Key application areas evaluated included AI-driven disease screening, diagnostic tools, remote ICU monitoring, and computer-assisted surgical planning. Secretary Krishnan called for integrating AI education across academic disciplines while urging tighter collaboration between technology specialists, medical researchers, and startups under supportive frameworks such as the IndiaAI Mission and STPI's investor connect ecosystem. The event brought together government officials, academic leaders, medical professionals, and founders to bridge the gap between AI research and commercial deployment. STPI Director General Arvind Kumar highlighted the organization's network of 27 Centres of Entrepreneurship dedicated to fostering indigenous deep-tech product development and market access. Meanwhile, IIT BHU Director Prof. Amit Patra detailed the institute's incubation initiatives via its Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) to help early-stage ventures secure seed capital and scale. Panel sessions focused on responsible AI deployment, multidisciplinary R&D, and commercialization pathways, underscoring triple-helix collaboration among academia, industry, and government as essential to strengthening India’s healthcare-tech innovation stack.
