MoD ₹4,106 Crore Defense Procurement Contracts

The Ministry of Defence signed two strategic procurement contracts worth approximately ₹4,106 crore ($431.98 million) on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi to bolster India’s indigenous defense capabilities. The first contract, valued at ₹2,563 crore ($269.65 million), was awarded to NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) for the acquisition of the GSAT-7C communication satellite for the Indian Air Force. Indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured, this dedicated satellite will provide secure, resilient, and seamless real-time communication links across Air Force operational assets, driving digital transformation and battlefield effectiveness while deepening domestic expertise in advanced space technologies. The second contract, worth ₹1,543 crore ($162.34 million), was inked with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of Varunastra Heavy Weight Torpedoes to the Indian Navy. Designed and developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Varunastra is a ship-launched, long-range anti-submarine torpedo featuring advanced maneuverability and modern acoustic homing systems to counter submarine threats. Signed under the supervision of Additional Secretary & DG (Acquisition) A. Anbarasu, both procurement orders advance the national Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India frameworks, reinforcing self-reliance in mission-critical defense production and defense-tech R&D.
