ni-msme Institutional & Digital Transformation Overview

The National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme), an autonomous body under the Ministry of MSME, plays a pivotal role in strengthening enterprise creation, managerial capabilities, and sustainable business growth across India and internationally. Accredited with a 3-Star Rating under the Capacity Building Commission’s UTKRISHT system, the 66-year-old institute has trained 11,032 executives from 150 nations across 550 international programs and benefited over 6.07 lakh participants through 17,672 national initiatives. Its institutional achievements encompass 6,840 skill development drives for over 2.1 lakh youth, 27 executed MSME cluster projects, 235 specialized services via Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres (IPFCs), and 962 research studies—spanning capital access, international trade, digital transformation, and green tech adoption. In recent years, ni-msme has sharply focused on driving Industry 5.0 integration, AI automation, e-commerce, and digital branding for grassroots micro-enterprises. In March 2026, the institute organized national conferences on AI-driven manufacturing and digital-enabled factories to accelerate tech adoption. These digital empowerment programs yield direct commercial results: for instance, under a NABARD-supported initiative, Telangana’s Amarchintha Handloom Weavers Producer Co. utilized digital tools to land a ₹16 lakh ($16,894) deal and boost annual turnover to ₹2.8 crore ($0.29 million). Similarly, local women entrepreneurs scaling millet businesses achieved a tenfold growth in monthly turnover to ₹2 lakh ($2,104), illustrating ni-msme's impact on employment generation and MSME competitiveness.
