September 2026 Gem & Jewellery Export Performance
According to data from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India’s gross gem and jewellery exports expanded 9.43% year-on-year in US dollar terms (18.24% in rupee terms) to reach ₹28,157.55 crore ($2.95 billion) in September 2026. Cumulative exports for the April–September 2026 period rose 3.07% in dollar terms to ₹1.36 lakh crore ($14.30 billion). GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali noted that this positive growth trajectory reflects sector resilience despite ongoing global trade headwinds. The expansion was spearheaded by studded gold jewellery exports, which surged 31.31% in dollar terms to ₹35,139.71 crore ($3.69 billion), bolstered by favorable tariff reductions under the India-UK trade agreement, lower US tariffs, and robust demand across Hong Kong, Singapore, and France.
Conversely, plain gold jewellery exports declined 8.81% to ₹24,126.58 crore ($2.53 billion) as elevated global gold prices and softer Middle Eastern demand weighed on consumer volumes. Cut and polished diamond export volumes demonstrated recovery, rising 4.64% to 83.98 lakh carats, though total value eased 6.96% in dollar terms to ₹55,336.16 crore ($5.81 billion) while gaining 2.31% in rupee terms. High-growth segments included polished lab-grown diamonds, which surged 17.08% to ₹6,522.15 crore ($685.10 million), and silver jewellery, which grew 23.10% to ₹6,908.90 crore ($729.32 million). Looking ahead, GJEPC highlights product innovation, value addition, and geographic diversification as core pillars to sustain export momentum.
