Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and Information Technology, and Information & Broadcasting Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, remarked that artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and railways will be essential in propelling India’s upcoming phase of economic development and technological change. During his address at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Business Summit 2026, Mr. Vaishnaw emphasised that India is undergoing swift advancements in railway modernisation, electronics production, and semiconductor innovation, bolstered by policy reforms and substantial infrastructure investments. He observed that India has added 36,000 kilometers of railway lines and electrified 49,000 kilometers in the last ten years, while capital spending on railways has risen substantially to almost Rs. 2.72 lakh crore (US$ 28.78 billion) during the previous fiscal year. The Minister mentioned that India's emphasis on quality, efficient processes, and competitive pricing is enhancing the nation's role as a worldwide center for manufacturing and technology. Mr. Vaishnaw highlighted that AI is among the most revolutionary technological advancements worldwide and asserted that India should strategically utilize AI to enhance productivity, manufacturing standards, and operational efficiency in various sectors. He emphasised that a new surge of electronics production plants and semiconductor investments is establishing the groundwork for a technologically advanced and self-sufficient India. The government has been vigorously encouraging semiconductor production, digital infrastructure, and AI advancements through programs like the India Semiconductor Mission and IndiaAI Mission. Industry participants observed that the joint advancement of advanced manufacturing, railway infrastructure, and digital technologies could notably improve India’s industrial competitiveness, job creation, and long-term economic stability.
