Colgate’s 12% revenue growth masks margin pressure
Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited (NSE: COLPAL) reported Q2 FY27 revenue of ₹1,706 crore, up 12.3% year-on-year. Net profit increased just 4.3% to ₹342 crore, missing market expectations. What happened? The oral-care company delivered high-single-digit volume growth in toothpaste, led by premium products and Colgate MaxFresh. However, EBITDA increased only 1.7% to ₹473 crore. EBITDA margin contracted to 27.8% from 30.6% a year earlier, a decline of 280 basis points. The company also declared an interim dividend of ₹24 per share, with 2 November 2026 as the record date. My analysis The most important signal is the divergence between revenue and profit growth. Volume growth suggests that consumer demand remains healthy, particularly in premium toothpaste. However, the sharp margin contraction indicates that higher sales are not translating proportionately into operating earnings. Interestingly, gross margin improved by 40 basis points to 69.6%. This suggests that pressure elsewhere in the cost structure, including increased brand investments and operating expenses, deserves closer attention
