HFCL’s 448% profit jump raises the execution bar
HFCL Limited (NSE: HFCL) reported Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹394.22 crore, up 448% year-on-year, on 19 October 2026. Revenue rose 144% to ₹2,541.79 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded to 25.89%. What happened? HFCL delivered its strongest quarterly performance to date, supported by demand for optical fibre cables and connectivity solutions, including from AI data centres. EBITDA increased 223.55% year-on-year to ₹658 crore. The company's order book exceeded ₹28,900 crore, providing visibility into future execution. Management expects FY27 revenue to grow by at least 80% over FY26 and plans to invest approximately ₹1,800 crore in optical fibre, cable and preform manufacturing capacity. My analysis The results point to more than just revenue growth. The expansion in EBITDA margin suggests meaningful operating leverage as business volumes increase. However, the previous year's profit base was relatively low at ₹71.92 crore. That makes the 448% growth rate impressive, but not sufficient on its own to establish a sustainable earnings trajectory. The bigger question is whether the current margins can be maintained as HFCL expands capacity and executes its large order book. A substantial order book provides revenue visibility, but profitability ultimately depends on delivery schedules, project economics, working capital and cash conversion. With expectations now elevated, even a strong business can disappoint if execution falls short of what the market has priced in.
