ICICI Prudential AMC profit grows just 6.1%
ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company Limited (NSE: ICICIAMC) reported Q2 FY27 profit after tax of ₹889 crore, up 6.1% year-on-year. Revenue from operations grew 16.3% to ₹1,674 crore, while quarterly average assets under management increased 14.4% to ₹11.61 lakh crore. The divergence between revenue and profit growth is the key takeaway. An asset management company benefits from rising assets under management because a larger asset base can generate more fee income. ICICI Prudential AMC's growth in average AUM indicates that its business continues to expand. However, expenses increased 17.9%, faster than revenue growth of 16.3%. This suggests that the company is not converting its expanding business into profit at the same pace. There is another variable worth tracking. AMC earnings are influenced by both market movements and investor flows. Rising equity markets can increase AUM without equivalent net inflows, while market corrections can reduce the fee-generating asset base even if clients remain invested. For this reason, I would not evaluate the quarter using AUM growth alone. The more important question is whether ICICI Prudential AMC can improve operating leverage as its business scales. The company also declared an interim dividend of ₹30 per share, with October 21, 2026, as the record date. While the payout is attractive for eligible shareholders, the sustainability of earnings growth matters more to the long-term investment case. My view: The business is growing, but the slower profit growth deserves attention. If expenses continue to rise faster than revenue, operating leverage could remain weak even as AUM expands. I would look for evidence of better cost control before becoming more positive on the earnings trajectory.
