IIFL Finance profit jumps 93% as assets cross ₹1.24 L Cr
IIFL Finance Limited (NSE: IIFL) reported Q2 FY27 profit after tax of ₹805 crore, up 93% year-on-year. Assets under management increased 38% to ₹1,24,268 crore, while gross NPAs declined to 1.48%. The most encouraging part of this result is the combination of business growth and improving asset quality. IIFL Finance is expanding its lending book while reducing the proportion of loans classified as non-performing. The company also reported a 31% increase in pre-provision operating profit to ₹1,355 crore. This suggests that the improvement is not limited to the bottom line and that the underlying lending business is generating stronger operating earnings. However, the 93% profit growth needs context. The previous year's base was relatively weak, and lower credit costs have supported profitability. Investors should therefore avoid extrapolating this growth rate into future quarters. Another important development is the composition of the loan book. Gold loans have been a major growth driver, but management expects home loans and secured MSME lending to contribute more as gold loan growth moderates. This transition will matter because different lending products carry different yields, operating costs and credit risks. My view: IIFL Finance is demonstrating a meaningful improvement in operating performance. However, the next phase of growth will depend on maintaining asset quality while diversifying its lending mix. I would focus on sustainable return on equity rather than the headline profit growth alone. What I am watching next: - Whether gross NPAs remain close to or below 1.5%. - Growth in home loans and secured MSME lending. - Whether annualised return on equity remains around 20%. - Credit costs and profitability in Q3 FY27. Stance: Cautiously constructive. Stronger core earnings and sustained asset quality would support the investment case, but the quality of incremental lending remains critical.
