Nifty's 23,500 hurdle is the next test for the market rally

The Nifty 50 rose 1.68% to close at 23,440.8 on 2 November 2026, its highest level in nearly two months. Thirteen of 16 major sectors advanced, but Reliance Industries Limited (NSE: RELIANCE), which gained 11.6%, contributed roughly half of the index's rise. What happened Indian equities extended their recovery on Monday. Buying was visible across energy, metals, autos and several other sectors. A decline in Brent crude from around US$118 to US$109 per barrel also supported sentiment. Why it matters The improvement in market breadth is encouraging. Gains across 13 of 16 major sectors suggest that participation was not limited to a handful of stocks. However, the contribution from Reliance Industries Limited was unusually large. That makes the sustainability of the rally more important than the headline index gain alone. The Nifty is now approaching the 23,500-23,600 resistance zone. A decisive move above this band could open the way towards 23,800-23,900. On the downside, 22,900-23,200 is the key near-term support zone to monitor. What to watch next The immediate trigger is a sustained close above 23,500, preferably supported by broader participation rather than another narrow heavyweight-led move. Also monitor crude oil and the performance of banking, IT and other heavyweight sectors. A rejection near resistance followed by a move below 23,200 would weaken the short-term setup. Stance: Cautiously positive, but not a confirmed breakout yet. Avoid chasing the sharp one-day move; a sustained close above 23,500 with healthy market breadth would provide stronger confirmation.
