Exide commissions Phase-I of 6 GWh cell plant
Exide Industries Limited (NSE: EXIDEIND) has commissioned Phase-I of its lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Devanahalli, Bengaluru.
The first phase has a capacity of 6 GWh and is being developed through its subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited.
Key details
• The facility will manufacture advanced lithium-ion cells across multiple chemistries and form factors.
• The cells are intended for mobility and energy-storage applications.
• Phase-I adds 6 GWh of cell manufacturing capacity to Exide’s new-energy business.
• Exide has been building this project as part of its move beyond its traditional lead-acid battery business.
My view
This is more important than a routine capacity announcement because Exide is moving from project development into actual lithium-ion cell manufacturing.
The key question now is utilisation. A large cell plant only creates value if Exide can ramp production, secure customers and maintain competitive manufacturing economics.
What I’m watching next
I will watch for commercial production ramp-up, customer tie-ups, utilisation levels and any update on the next phase of capacity expansion.
Stance: Positive on the commissioning milestone, but execution and utilisation will decide the financial impact.
Disclosure: I do not have any holding or position in the stock mentioned above.
