Federal Bank Q2 profit jumps 45% to record ₹1,386 crore

The Federal Bank Limited (NSE: FEDERALBNK) reported Q2 FY27 net profit of ₹1,386 crore, up 45% YoY, marking a record quarterly profit. Net interest income rose 26.4% YoY to ₹3,153 crore, while asset quality also improved during the quarter. Key details • Net profit: ₹1,386 crore, up 45% YoY. • Net interest income: ₹3,153 crore, up 26.4% YoY. • Gross advances crossed ₹3 lakh crore. • Advances grew about 22% YoY, while deposits increased around 19%. • Gross NPA improved to 1.32%. • Net interest margin expanded by 26 basis points YoY. My view The quality of the quarter looks strong because profit growth was supported by three factors together: faster loan growth, higher net interest income and improving asset quality. The 26-bps margin expansion is especially important. Banks can grow loans aggressively, but if margins or asset quality deteriorate, that growth becomes less valuable. Federal Bank managed to improve both during Q2. What I’m watching next I will watch whether advances can continue growing above 20%, whether gross NPA remains near current levels and if the improved NIM can be sustained in H2 FY27. Stance: Positive on earnings growth, margins and asset quality. Sustainability of loan growth is the next key trigger. Disclosure: I do not have any holding or position in the stock mentioned above.
