Adani Ports' Port Switches Entirely To Renewable Power

ADANIPORTS
Ports and Special Economic Zone (ADANIPORTS) is in focus after its Dhamra Port in Odisha shifted its entire electricity consumption to renewable power. The Scale Dhamra Port now sources more than 90 lakh units of electricity every month from renewable sources. Its annualised renewable electricity consumption has crossed 108 GWh. **How The Transition Was Achieved** The port's renewable electricity requirement is being met through a combination of captive renewable power, third-party access arrangements and green-power procurement under Odisha's regulatory framework. Around 25–30% of the renewable electricity comes from APSEZ's captive hybrid power plant at Khavda in Gujarat, while another 10–15% is sourced through third-party access. **Why This Matters** Dhamra is an energy-intensive logistics facility handling more than 48 million tonnes of cargo annually. Moving its electricity consumption entirely to renewable sources is therefore a meaningful operational decarbonisation step rather than a small pilot project. **Business Context** Dhamra Port has an installed cargo-handling capacity of 60 million tonnes and is connected by rail and road to mineral-rich regions across Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. **What To Watch** The key areas to monitor are whether similar renewable-power transitions are implemented across other APSEZ facilities and how the company's increasing renewable-energy integration affects its long-term operating and emissions profile. This update is based on company disclosures and reported information. It is not investment advice.
