Axis Bank – Q1 FY25 Performance
Axis Bank posted a net profit of ₹6,558 crore, a 10% YoY increase, reflecting consistent performance in a competitive environment. The Net Interest Income (NII) grew by 6.5%, reaching ₹13,089 crore. However, Net Interest Margin (NIM) slightly declined to 4.06%, compared to 4.10% in the previous quarter, indicating early signs of deposit cost pressures. The loan book expanded by 16% YoY, supported by robust retail and SME lending. Gross NPA remained stable at 1.43%, reflecting strong asset quality management. That said, the CASA (Current and Savings Account) ratio came in at 43%, down from 44.4% YoY, hinting at slower low-cost deposit growth. Inference: Axis Bank is managing growth well, but its margins are showing signs of strain due to rising funding costs—a trend seen across the sector. As interest rate cycles evolve, deposit franchise strength will play a crucial role in sustaining profitability.
