This divergence is worth studying. Why might investors favour consumer stocks during uncertain markets? Consumer staples businesses often benefit from relatively consistent demand. However, their performance still depends on volume growth, input costs, pricing power and valuation. My research checklist: 1. Volume growth: Are consumers buying more products, or is revenue growth mainly price-led? 2. Margins: Are commodity and packaging costs affecting profitability? 3. Rural demand: Is consumption improving across urban and rural markets? 4. Valuation: Does the current price offer a reasonable return relative to expected earnings growth? My view The stock's relative strength is encouraging, but a single session cannot establish a sustained trend. I would look for confirmation through quarterly performance and continued buying interest.
