Nifty Smallcap 100 Outperforms Benchmarks this Week

The Nifty Smallcap 100 index outperformed the Nifty 50 and Sensex in the week ended August 21, 2026, gaining 0.69 per cent on the final trading day alone even as the benchmark indices ended virtually flat and recorded their second consecutive weekly decline. The Indian equity markets concluded the week ended August 21, 2026 on a subdued note, with benchmark indices registering their second consecutive weekly decline. The Nifty 50 ended the week 0.47 per cent lower, while the Sensex shed approximately 468 points, or 0.60 per cent, over the five sessions. The broader markets demonstrated resilience, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 outperforming the benchmarks by gaining 0.69 per cent on the final trading day. Notable events within the smallcap space this week: -

NETWEB
Netweb Technologies hit a fresh 52-week high of approximately Rs 5,642 after completing a Rs 1,200 crore qualified institutional placement involving Nomura and Goldman Sachs as participants, with shares gaining approximately 3.9 per cent during the session. - Lenskart Solutions touched a new 52-week high following the incorporation of a step-down subsidiary. - *Inflows into smallcap mutual funds were net positive for every month since April 2024*, with July 2026 clocking the highest inflows during the entire period at Rs 7,768 crore. The sustained outperformance of the Nifty Smallcap 100 against the Nifty 50 through August 2026 — on a week when the large-cap benchmark fell under crude, bond yield and NBFC regulatory pressure — reflects the continued strength of domestic institutional flows into the smallcap segment, even as FIIs have remained net sellers of Indian equities year to date.
