PART 2: The FD Illusion — Why We Still Choose It
I get it. FDs feel safe. My parents swore by them. So did their parents. ✅ Guaranteed return ✅ No market ups and downs ✅ Simple to understand But here’s the truth I had to face: Safety doesn’t mean security. What’s the point of ₹1 crore if it only buys you ₹75 lakhs worth of goods 10 years from now? We chase “certainty” with FDs, but in doing so, we accept certainty of loss — not on paper, but in value. Think about it: A loaf of bread that cost ₹25 a decade ago is ₹45–50 now. Education, healthcare, fuel — all rising 6–10% a year. Yet our “safe” FD gives us 4–5% after tax? 💡 Lesson: FDs protect your capital, not your future.
