SBI Life Insurance Nifty Top Gainer September 4 2026 Session
SBI Life Insurance Company Limited
SBILIFE
was the top gainer among major stocks on Friday, September 4, 2026, surging 3.50 per cent to Rs 1,775 — the strongest single-stock performance of the session on a day when the Sensex snapped a four-day losing streak to close 362.57 points higher at 76,515.43 and the Nifty ended 24.25 points up at 23,897.70.
SBI Life Insurance Company Limited gaining 3.50 per cent on Friday confirms insurance stocks as one of the cleaner structural plays in an uncertain market. While IT, auto, pharma and realty all declined on Friday — the fourth consecutive session of underperformance for pharma and auto — SBI Life and HDFC Life rose 3.50 per cent and 2.42 per cent respectively, providing the insurance sector's strongest two-day run since July 2026.
The buying in insurance names on Friday was driven by two factors. First, easing US Treasury yields — which reduced fears of a September Federal Reserve rate hike — improved the valuation environment for long-duration financial assets, including life insurance companies whose embedded value is sensitive to discount rate assumptions. Second, subsiding concerns about a prolonged US-Iran conflict improved overall financial sector sentiment, with insurance names seen as domestically anchored alternatives to the more volatile banking stocks.
Key metrics for context: SBI Life's 52-week range runs from Rs 1,700.40 to Rs 2,132. Q1 FY27 results are due shortly, with the market expecting new business premium growth of 12 to 15 per cent year on year and value of new business growth of 10 to 12 per cent. FY26 new business premium stood at a record Rs 26,412 crore.
