The Stock That Topped the Index and Nobody Noticed | Shriram Finance

SHRIRAMFIN
Shriram Finance was Wednesday's biggest Nifty 50 gainer, rising nearly 3 per cent to lead the index even as heavyweights like TCS, HCL Tech and Apollo Hospitals fell sharply on the same day. It is a name that rarely dominates headlines — and that is precisely what makes it worth examining closely. HDFC Sky Shriram Finance is India's largest retail non-banking financial company, focused on commercial vehicle lending, two-wheeler loans and personal finance — businesses that are deeply tied to India's rural and semi-urban economic cycles. The stock was among the top Nifty movers at the open on Wednesday alongside SBI, M&M and Larsen and Toubro — a grouping that reflects the market's preference for domestically-driven, rate-sensitive businesses on a day when the RBI held rates steady and crude fell. Upstox The longer-term numbers make the case clearly. The stock's 52-week high stands at Rs 737 against a low of Rs 490 — a 50 per cent range that reflects both the sharp correction earlier in the year and the equally sharp recovery since March. Over one year, the stock has returned over 23 per cent, consistently outperforming the broader Nifty. Q4 FY26 net profit grew 18 per cent year on year, and the company has delivered profit growth for six straight quarters. Assets under management have crossed Rs 2.65 lakh crore, with gross NPA holding steady below 6 per cent — manageable for an NBFC operating heavily in the commercial vehicle segment. With the RBI maintaining a neutral stance and no rate hike signalled, the lending environment for NBFCs remains supportive. Thursday's session will test whether Wednesday's 3 per cent move was driven by results-preview buying or broader NBFC sector rotation — either way, it is a stock that has earned a place on every financial sector watchlist this week.
