Hero MotoCorp EV Expansion in ATHER ENERGY

Hero MotoCorp’s purchase of an additional stake in Ather Energy for up to ₹1,758 crore reinforces its strategic commitment to India’s electric two-wheeler market. By increasing its equity holding from 29.88% to ~32.8%, Hero secures a stronger foothold in a high-growth associate company whose revenues reached ₹3,671.76 crore in FY26. Because Ather remains an associate entity, the transaction will not consolidate Ather's revenue into Hero's main financial statements; profits or losses will be recognized through equity accounting. The acquisition is funded entirely via cash reserves and requires no regulatory approvals, enabling completion by early September 2026. While the valuation reflects a premium price tag for a secondary stake purchase, it provides Hero with a solid hedge against traditional internal combustion engine disruption alongside its internal VIDA brand. For investors, this move represents sound capital deployment for long-term technology diversification, though key near-term financial drivers will continue to depend on Hero's core ICE business performance and overall two-wheeler demand.
