directed to pay penalty of ₹10 Lakhs for violation of Food Safety and Standards Act

Avenue Supermarts Limited has been directed to pay a penalty of ₹10 Lakhs by the Adjudication Officer and Joint Commissioner (Food) (Konkan Division), Food and Drug Administration, Thane, Maharashtra. The penalty is for violation of certain provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, related to misleading/misbranding of a food product manufactured by an FMCG Company and sold at one of the company's stores. Penalties have also been imposed on the Manufacturer, Distributor, and Marketer. The manufacturer is planning to contest the levy; otherwise, it will bear the penalty imposed on the company. The company believes there is no material impact on its operations or other activities due to this notice.
