However, instead of imposing new tariffs, the U.S. granted an exemption for Indian generic drugs. This was a major relief for the industry, as a 25% tariff had been anticipated in response to India’s 10% tax on U.S. pharmaceutical imports. The exemption ensures that Indian companies can continue supplying affordable medicines to the U.S. without additional costs. Industry Response Pharmaceutical industry bodies welcomed the decision. The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India credited the Indian government for securing the exemption, ensuring an uninterrupted flow of essential medicines. The Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance highlighted that this move reinforces India’s role in global healthcare and strengthens trade relations with the U.S. What’s Next?
