Piramal Pharma Returns To Profit With Strong Revenue Growth

PPLPHARMA
a has delivered a turnaround worth paying attention to. For Q2 FY27, the company reported a consolidated net profit of around ₹5.6 crore, compared with a loss of ₹99.2 crore in the same quarter last year. Revenue grew 28% to ₹2,617 crore, while EBITDA increased 72% to ₹385 crore. But the bigger development came with its full-year outlook. Piramal Pharma raised its FY27 revenue growth guidance to 19–20%, following strong first-half performance. Its contract development and manufacturing business (CDMO), which helps pharmaceutical companies develop and manufacture medicines, grew 36% during the first half. This business is particularly interesting because pharmaceutical companies often outsource specialised manufacturing and development work rather than building all the capabilities themselves. Piramal is also seeing growth across its complex hospital generics and consumer healthcare businesses, making the latest performance broader than a single-segment recovery. However, there’s still something to monitor: the company remains loss-making on a first-half net-profit basis, despite returning to quarterly profitability. Sustaining margins and converting growth into consistent earnings will be important. For me, the key question is whether this quarter marks the beginning of a sustained earnings recovery or simply a strong period in a longer turnaround. The next few quarters should tell us more.
