share: Should you hold State Bank of India for 2-3 years in portfolio?

SBI Share Price : S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded ratings of top 10 financial institutions, including State Bank of India (SBI ) -- India's largest commercial bank. SBI shares are closely watched by analysts as it is a key indicator of the banking sector’s health. In recent years, the public sector bank has significantly improved profitability and strengthened its asset quality. In the first quarter of current fiscal (Q1 FY2026), SBI posted 12 per cent increase in standalone net profit at Rs 19,160 crore. On the asset quality front, SBI witnessed improvement as well with gross non-performing assets declining to 1.83 per cent (from 2.21 per cent YoY) and net NPAs falling to 0.47 per cent (0.57 per cent YoY). Speaking to ET NOW, market expert Sharmila Joshi said that one can definitely continue to hold SBI in portfolio. "Let's now forget that SBI is India's largest bank and if you have a positive view on banking sector, then SBI definitely find its name at the top of the list of stocks that you need to own or have in portfolio".
