State Bank Of India Profit Rises 14% In Q2

State Bank of India has delivered another strong quarterly performance, but there's more to the story than just profit growth.

SBIN
For Q2 FY27, SBI reported a 14% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹23,038 crore, compared with ₹20,160 crore in the same quarter last year. For a banking business, I would look beyond the headline profit number. Three things matter here: 1. **Loan growth:** Can SBI continue expanding its lending business without compromising credit quality? 2. **Asset quality:** Are bad loans and credit costs remaining under control? 3. **Margins:** Can the bank maintain healthy net interest margins while competing for deposits? SBI's scale gives it a significant presence across retail, corporate and government banking. But a large loan book also means that even small changes in credit costs can influence overall profitability. Another important factor is deposit mobilisation. Banks need a consistent deposit base to fund future lending, and competition for deposits remains an important industry challenge. For me, the bigger story is whether SBI can maintain double-digit profit growth while keeping asset quality and margins healthy. That's what I would track in the coming quarters.
