Balrampur Chini profit jumps 90%; declares ₹4 dividend

BALRAMCHIN
reported strong Q2 FY27 consolidated financial results, with net profit increasing 89.8% year-on-year to ₹102.3 crore compared with ₹53.9 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue increased 12.3% to ₹1,876 crore from ₹1,671 crore, while EBITDA surged 42.4% to ₹171.4 crore compared with ₹120.4 crore. EBITDA margin improved significantly to 9.1% from 7.2%, indicating better operating profitability. Dividend Announcement: The company's board declared an interim dividend of ₹4 per share. This provides a direct cash distribution to shareholders. However, dividend payment also results in a cash outflow for the company, reducing available cash and reserves to that extent. Investors should therefore evaluate the dividend alongside the company's cash flow, capital expenditure and future funding requirements. From a fundamental perspective, profit growth substantially exceeding revenue growth and improving EBITDA margins are encouraging signs. However, investors should not treat the dividend declaration alone as an additional earnings growth trigger. The sustainability of operating performance remains more important for long-term valuation. My View: Balrampur Chini delivered strong quarterly performance, supported by higher profitability and margin expansion. The ₹4 interim dividend is an additional shareholder return, but the cash outflow and possible ex-dividend price adjustment should also be considered. Overall, earnings performance remains positive, while future margins and cash flows need monitoring. What to watch: Sustainability of EBITDA margin improvement. Sugar and ethanol business performance. Operating cash flow and capital requirements. Dividend record date and payment details. Future earnings growth and valuation. Stance: BALRAMCHIN – POSITIVE (8/10)
