Canara Bank reported an 8.4% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹5,175 crore for the second quarter of FY27, compared with ₹4,774 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Net interest income (NII) rose 20.4% to approximately ₹11,005 crore, supported by growth in core banking income. The results highlight the bank’s continued improvement in lending operations and profitability.
The bank’s global business increased 15.88% year-on-year to approximately ₹30.72 lakh crore as of September 30, 2026. Global advances grew 19.46%, while global deposits increased 13.13%. Asset quality also improved, with the gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio declining to 1.33% from 2.35% a year earlier, while the net NPA ratio stood at 0.30%. However, lower treasury income remained a concern for overall earnings growth.
Going forward, investors will monitor credit growth, deposit mobilisation, net interest margins and treasury income. Improving asset quality and strong NII growth provide positive signals, but the bank’s ability to sustain profitability amid changing interest rates and funding costs will remain important. Market participants will also track management commentary on business expansion and capital-raising plans for further direction on the stock.#WatchOutFor
