MAZAGON DOCK RISE AFTER ₹15,000-CR MAHARASHTRA SHIPYARD PLAN

MAZDOCK
Shares of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders rose nearly 2% in Friday’s trading session, breaking a six-session losing streak after the company outlined plans to invest up to ₹15,000 crore in a proposed shipyard in Maharashtra. Mazagon Dock Director (Finance) Ruchir Agrawal said the company is targeting returns of 15–17% from the proposed investment and expects a binding agreement to be signed soon. Agrawal also said the P75I submarine programme is expected to be awarded in the current financial year. He added that Mazagon Dock will participate in the Indian Navy’s 75 Bravo request for proposal (RFP), which could help keep the company’s order book strong if the contract comes through. Earlier this week, Mazagon Dock signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park Maharashtra Ltd (NSHIPML) to participate as the anchor shipyard in the proposed Greenfield Shipbuilding Industrial Cluster at Dighi in Maharashtra. The proposed facility is expected to have an annual shipbuilding capacity of at least 1.2 million gross tonnes. It is designed to support the construction of large commercial vessels while creating a broader maritime industrial ecosystem involving ancillary industries, MSMEs, technology partners and skilled employment. The Dighi project marks a strategic expansion for Mazagon Dock beyond its established expertise in warship and submarine construction into large-scale commercial shipbuilding. The initiative is also aligned with India’s broader maritime development goals under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
