What is the role of the RBI in India's economy?

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plays a vital role in maintaining the stability and growth of the Indian economy. It acts as the country’s central bank, regulating the supply of money, controlling inflation, and ensuring financial stability. The RBI formulates and implements monetary policies to balance economic growth and price stability. It also regulates and supervises banks to maintain the health of the financial system. As the issuer of currency, the RBI ensures adequate cash circulation and prevents counterfeiting. It manages foreign exchange reserves, facilitates smooth payment systems, and intervenes in currency markets when necessary. Additionally, the RBI promotes financial inclusion, encourages digital transactions, and supports economic reforms, making it a crucial pillar for India’s economic management and progress.
