Archean Chemical’s Investee Inaugurates UK Pilot Facility for Zinc-Bromide Batteries
Offgrid Energy Labs, an investee company of Archean Chemical Industries, has commenced operations of its first pilot manufacturing facility for Zinc-Bromide based batteries in Hook, Hampshire, UK, on July 7, 2026.
Key Highlights:
Facility & Tech: The facility features an initial 10 MWh demonstration line, marking the commercial pilot-scale production of Offgrid’s proprietary ZincGel® technology.
Strategic Synergy: The Zinc-Bromide battery chemistry directly synergizes with Archean Chemical’s core bromine business. This pilot establishes a critical foundation for future large-scale manufacturing, including a planned giga-factory in India.
Target Market: The technology is designed for Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES), addressing grid balancing, renewable energy integration, and industrial backup power.
Investment Context:
Archean Chemical previously invested USD 12 million in May 2025 to acquire an 18.14% stake (via A1 Preferred Stock) in Offgrid Energy Labs. The company clarified that this facility inauguration does not entail any additional financial commitment from Archean.
Strategic Outlook:
This milestone validates the transition of Offgrid’s technology from the lab to commercial pilot production. It strategically positions Archean Chemical to capitalize on the rapidly growing global demand for long-duration energy storage solutions while creating a new, high-value downstream application for its bromine products.
