Balrampur Chini's ₹3,000 Cr Bio-Plastic Plant to Drive ₹2,000 Cr Annual Revenue
Balrampur Chini Mills will commission an 80,000 TPA Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) bio-plastic plant in Uttar Pradesh in Q3 FY27, with an investment of ₹3,000+ crore. At full capacity, the facility is expected to generate ~₹2,000 crore annual revenue, with full-year impact from FY27-28.
Key Points:
Product: Biodegradable PLA from sugarcane/corn — aligned with global ESG trends.
Early Traction: First order from Lucknow Cantonment Board for compostable bags; product development underway using imported PLA.
Policy Edge: Eligible for incentives under UP's Bio Plastic Industrial Policy 2024.
Strategic Fit: Leverages existing sugar by-products for feedstock; diversifies beyond cyclical sugar revenues.
Context: Balrampur Chini operates 10 sugar factories (80,000 TCD capacity) plus distillery and cogeneration units. FY26 revenue rose 14.6% to ₹6,308 Cr.
Outlook: Successful ramp-up could re-rate the company as a diversified bio-materials player. Execution on offtake and margins will be key.
